- In 1804 Richard Atwell purchased 106 acres of land in Caswell county from his father in law, Ignatius Tennison. The land description named family friends: ....on the Waters of Dobbin’s creek and Hoggan creek, Tennison’s corner in Joseph Arnett’s line to Ruark’s corner with his and said Tennison line and John Powell’s to Simpson Ford Line. Wit: John B Tennison, Mary Tennison [Bk . N, pg. 1901-1991. He sold the land back to Iganatius. In 1807 with witnesses: John B Tennyson and Assa L Tennison.
Note in conducting research, there are four different men named Richard Atwell. (1) Richard Atwell b. ca 1782 married Sarah Tennison. (2) Richard Atwell b. 1832, son of above. (3) Richard Atwell [b. ca 1813 KY] son of John Atwell, brother to Richard who married Sarah Tennison. (4) Richard Moses Atwell [b. 1848] son of William Henry, grand son of above Richard [b. 1782]
