- Very little is known about Shadrick Tennison. He stayed in Virginia unlike most of his brothers. He received a pension from the War of 1812. He served under Capt. William Colemen in VA.
Research of his descendants have found a younger man with the same unusual name living in the same county about twenty years later. information on this second younger Ternnison named Shadrack provides the following:
" Shadrack Tennison buried January 22, 1872; dies in his 86th year; born Amherst Co., VA.:" This would place his birth year as 1787. This would track very well as the son of the older Shadrick.
This younger Shadrick moved to KY about 1820 according to the "Genealogical Abstracts from Reported Deaths in the Nashville Christian Advocate 1847-1849", by Jonathan Kennon Thompson Smith, 2003 {From researcher, Rick Tidwell}
The marriage of Shadrick Tennison on 8 Dec 1834 in Daviess Co., KY. to Harriett Coateney has documented his migration to KY. [Marriage book. 1831-1835 Daviness Co., KY].
1850 Census Daviess Co., KY shows a Shadrack Tennison, b. 1787 VA with wife Harriet Tennison age 52. (b. 1798). His Real estate value was $3240. The 1850 census also shows two additional members of household: Constance E Haggard age 8, born KY. Relationship unknown & Jefferson Rutidge age 21 male b. NC. relationship unknown
1870 Census Daviess Co., KY list Shedrick Tennison b. 1787 VA; birth place Virginia with wife Harriet C Tennison b. 1798 VA
Given the same unusual name, born in same county as the older Shadrack, and migrated to the same place in KY as other family members, it strongly suggest that this is the son of the elder Shadrack. Of course one must consider that the possibility that the Shadrack with the later birthdate could be a son of one of Shadrack's brothers and simply named after him.
